Marketing Manager - Direct Marketing
CarMax, a Fortune 500 company and one of the Fortune 2006 "100 Best Companies to Work For," is the nation's leading specialty retailer of used cars. We are currently seeking "Targeted" Marketing Project Manager to join our in-house Marketing department.
The primary goal of this position is to develop and optimize marketing programs that leverage consumer information to deliver relevant messages, with the purpose of increasing vehicle sales and appraisal purchases. Depending on current priorities and resources, areas of focus could include all of the following:
Prospecting- identifying new customers and encouraging web or store visit
Web-to-store conversion
Store conversion- improving 1st day sales, or 2+ day sales (follow-up)
Loyalty- customer satisfaction, repeat purchase, and referrals
The Targeted Marketing Project Manager will lead the organization's targeted acquisition, retention and loyalty programs. This individual will report directly to the VP of carmax.com and Marketing Strategy to define strategic objectives, provide expertise, direction and insight into the use of targeted marketing programs to achieve company objectives. Using shared mail, direct mail, email and web channels, this individual will develop, implement and measure the impact of a range of targeted marketing programs. This individual will work closely with our in-house creative team and directly manage our external vendors (customer database management, program execution and fulfillment). They will also work closely with business partners to develop innovative programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategically identify opportunity areas where direct communications could positively impact business results
Develop creative solutions to leverage those opportunity areas through direct marketing programs, including setting success metrics
Marshal resources company-wide, plus outside vendors, to identify and overcome key issues in implementing programs, such as business operations, consumer insights, legal, creative, customer relations, MIS, and store associates
Drive the development, implementation, and optimization of direct marketing programs, including thorough analysis against success metrics
KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
Prospecting: Achieve cost per incremental car sold less than established program goals
Web-to-store conversion: Generate program participation and increase web-to-store conversion in at or above program goals
Shopper follow-up: Increase in 2nd day sales without lowering number of 1st day sales
Purchaser Reminder Program: Meet or exceed established program goals for intention to repurchase, likelihood to tell others and repeat purchase rate

IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years marketing experience with at least 2 in targeted/direct marketing. A BA in business, marketing or a related field is required; Masters degree a plus!
* Proven success in the conceptualization, development and implementation of direct marketing programs and campaigns.
* Solid quantitative skills to measure, track and understand the results of on-going and test programs.
* Experience with internet targeted marketing a definite plus.
* Experience selecting and managing direct marketing vendors.
* Ability to manage projects from start to finish.
* Ability to work independently and in team setting.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrated strength in a leadership role.
