Mgr - HR Communications
Degree: BA/BS. The HR Communications Manager should have 5-10 years experience in communications with some experience in Human Resources and employee communications within a career reflecting growing responsibility and organizational influence. The successful candidate should also possess significant experience developing communications strategies/ plans for corporate- wide initiatives and effectively presenting them to senior management. He or she should have a strong knowledge of HR initiatives, practices and programs, as well as laws affecting them (e.g. ERISA, HIPPA). Strong oral communications and writing skills are also required. The successful candidate will manage a staff of communications specialists, including all aspects of supervision and performance management. He or she must have a demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplined teams and work on multiple projects while meeting all required time lines, with minimal supervision. He or she should have experience communicating ideas to all levels (represented and non-represented, technical and professional) of the workforce. The position requires a bachelors degree in journalism, communications or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge about contemporary intranet and portal concepts, terms, and software capabilities is desired.
Preferences:
Degree: MBA/MA/MS. Masters degree in business administration, marketing, or communications preferred. The ideal candidate would also have two to five years experience in managing creative staff. He or she should also have served in a consulting capacity for at least two years.
Typical Responsibilities:
The Manager of HR Communications will consult with HR managers and their staffs throughout the corporation to develop communications strategies and materials ( using print, video, the web or other means, as appropriate) to market HRs services and programs, support organizational change, and educate employees and retirees about existing benefits. He or she will strategize and provide recommendations on communication strategies and vehicles to help client meet desired goals and ensure use of appropriate approach, content, and timing for audiences within each company and retirees. Responsibilities include the need to: Serve as employee advocate on project development, often resulting in changes in plans or approaches by others. Strategic focus here is on the impact of and reaction to changes implemented. In such capacity, serve as a consultant in benefits, compensation, HR systems and in other department areas on projects beyond the communications strategy to ensure objectives are met with an eye on employee/retiree reaction. Conceptualize or direct development of companywide communications projects, including concept, writing, editing, and design of brochures, newsletters and other media, by direct reports, indirect reports, and vendors, including projects in business areas outside HR. Manage HR content on MyEdison.net and EDNA as well as help strategize migration of HR content to portal in future. Help strategize communications rollouts for HR processes implemented in the ERP project. Effectively manage communications staff and budget, including employee development and vendor relations. Recommend solutions on diverse strategic and philosophical company- wide HR issues. Solutions developed on projects may result in benefits program changes (consult with benefits manager on approaches, marketing, plan design, etc.), implementation timing and design (i.e. spot bonus system), program structure (such as ACE), or have companywide economic impact (determining need to deliver investment education seminars at all locations on company-time).
