Practice Development Manager

O?Melveny & Myers LLP, a global law firm, has an immediate opportunity in our New York office for a Practice Development Manager.  This position is responsible for managing marketing functions for the NY office and supporting practice development and market research functions for assigned groups, while working closely with other members of the global Client Development team to ensure that client development initiatives synchronize with overall firm strategic initiatives. 

 

The Manager is responsible for engaging in research and analysis and competitive intelligence-gathering for strategic planning, competitive firm positioning, and client development and business expansion activities for assigned Departments, Practice(s), and the office.  This position also provides support to attorneys in assigned Departments and Practice(s) in developing and executing practice development and market research activities; leads and/or supports responses to RFPs, and develops pitches and presentations; develops and maintains the proposal database and industry survey content related to assigned Departments and Practice(s); responds to industry surveys; supports development, implementation, and tracking of marketing, communications, and practice-development initiatives in business plans; supports client development events and coordination of client development training for attorneys; collaborates with Office Heads and Department Heads on the development and tracking of annual Client Development budgets; and performs other duties as required.

 

Requirements include a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in a marketing and/or practice development- or business expansion-related position, either in the professional services arena (e.g., law, accounting, or consulting) or in a comparable position in the corporate, trade association, or academic sectors.  Supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership skills are required, including superior written and oral communication skills.  Must be results driven and be familiar with accepted research techniques and databases typically used for competitive intelligence gathering in a professional services company.  Strong Microsoft Office skills, namely Word, PowerPoint and Excel, are required.  A Bachelor?s degree in a marketing, business, research, or communications-related field, or appropriate experience in a related field, is required.
