Public Relations Manager
As a key member of the Corporate Communications team, the Public Relations Manager will focus on supporting the External Communications lead in driving public relations programs and strategies for T-Mobile USA. The manager will work closely with T-Mobile's PR agencies and business segment leaders to focus resources and drive projects aligned with the PR program to support corporate objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages day-to-day media relations activities such as responding to media line inquiries, coordinating media interviews and media pitching activities. Ensures messaging and strategy aligns with the T-Mobile brand and proper spokespeople are prepared.
Acts as company spokesperson to the media on appointed topics.
Manages multiple PR agencies and other business partners by providing direction and strategy for PR programs, ensuring the deadlines are met and segment leaders are clear on PR goals and opportunities.
Recommends course of action, and manages agreed-upon strategies in support of T-Mobile objectives, through internal/external research and newsgathering, and identifying and prioritizing data to support media relations activity.
Produces a full range of written material in support of public relations programs, including: key messages documents and Q&As, corporate fact sheets and backgrounders and other messaging documents as needed; develops and distributes press releases and other press materials to support product launches, service offerings and segment marketing initiatives.
Builds relationships and high levels of awareness with target information gatekeepers, including: national print and broadcast media, top-tier consumer magazines, trade publications and targeted local-market media; and key industry analysts.
Identifies spokespeople and implements media training if appropriate, as well as devises key messages and talking points.
Works with T-Mobile's Internal Communications and Web teams to extend messaging to those media to ensure consistency.
Functional/Technical Skills
Strong organization, leadership and project management/prioritization skills are required, as well as outstanding communication, writing, editing and media relations skills (both proactively and reactively)
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities within timeline and budgetary constraints
Comfortable working directly with senior management and Legal representatives
Ability to learn complex issues quickly; derive and articulate consumer benefits from technical specifications and distill clear strategy and messaging
Possess an enthusiasm for PR and communicating the T-Mobile brand externally
Positive interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking, upbeat attitude, flexibility, high integrity, persistence and personal initiative all are required
Self-motivated and possess the ability to work well both independently and among a team
The ability and desire to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-faceted department and organization with a "roll-up the sleeves" work ethic
Talent for asking the right questions and amassing the right answers to help you collect information to perform your job effectively
Experience
Must have a minimum of 5+ years of public relations experience, whether corporate or agency experience
Background in consumer technology and consumer PR extremely desirable
Significant experience in media relations, both proactive and reactive; as well as PR programming and planning.
Proficiency in MS Office suite of products.
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field.

This position is national in scope, and eventually may require travel about once a month.
