Celera has a successful molecular diagnostics business and powerful genomic and proteomic discovery platforms that have identified and validated new drug targets and biomarkers that will advance the practice of Targeted Medicine. Celera develops and sells a growing number of molecular diagnostic products through a profit-sharing strategic alliance with Abbott Laboratories. In addition, the company is developing new molecular diagnostics and pharmacogenomic tests outside of its alliance with Abbott, and is creating additional value through collaborations based on its genomic discoveries, including new druggable targets, new indications for existing drugs, and pharmacogenomic markers for predicting therapy response. Celera is also using its high-throughput proteomics discovery platform to identify and validate novel targets in cancer. Therapeutic antibodies against these targets are being advanced through strategic partnerships.


The Senior Scientist plans, prepares, conducts and records complex bench level chemical/biochemical experiments. Prepares reports and analysis of results as related to product/process development improvement. Activities may be focused individual projects or assignments as a member of a project team which may include project leadership duties.  Works within established parameters on individual assignments, on project teams for longer-term projects or as a leader for a project team or group. Presents experimental results to supervisor or project team members and contributes ideas to improve team processes. Participates in technical decisions affecting product development issues. May prepare and/or contribute to articles for publication. Presents information at project meetings and may present findings at scientific meetings or to customers. May manage up to three scientists.



Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through the successful completion of an advanced degree (M.A./Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific discipline. Requires two to five (2-5) years of prior relevant experience often acquired in an academic or industrial environment with a Ph.D., at least 4 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree, or at least 6 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree.
