Web Communications Editor

This is a full-time position in UC Davis Health System, Department of Medical Sciences, Public Affairs, located in Sacramento, working hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.  This classification is not represented by a union.

 

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the manager of Web communications, this position will work with the Web server administrators, public affairs and marketing staff, health system departments and outside agencies to develop and produce Web sites and Web content, maximizing the effectiveness of Web communications in achieving institutional goals, objectives and strategic priorities. Incumbent will implement Web policies and procedures; assure that Web sites meet established editorial, graphic and navigation standards; review, proofread and edit content for grammatical correctness, spelling, punctuation and AP style; gather and verify work; verify facts; and write strategically appropriate content for the Web.

 

Requirements:  Applicants must submit a minimum of three writing samples with application to demonstrate excellent written communication skills ? Web site addresses may also be included as a demonstration of previous work, but not substituted for printed writing samples. A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or related field is highly preferred. Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills and demonstrated writing, publishing and editing experience required. Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation. Experience editing to commonly accepted authorities on style such as AP Stylebook and the Chicago Manual, and the ability to uphold UC Davis editorial style guides. Demonstrated skill in analyzing Web documents and applying appropriate standards for format and layout. Thorough understanding in the creative use of the World Wide Web as a communications tool, the needs of Web audiences and how they use the Web. Demonstrated skill in organizing information for the Web. Excellent knowledge of Internet applications, Web browser features and limitations, search engines, graphic file formats, Web authoring tools and content management systems. Excellent knowledge of and experience with HTML. Familiarity with Java Script, Jscript, VB Script and database systems is highly preferred. Advanced computer skills and experience with both PC and Macintosh operating systems and applications (especially communications, graphic and Web design software). Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, diplomacy, tact and experience in working effectively with a variety of people in order to accomplish tasks. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, innovative and complete tasks in the most effective manner using resources available.
