Job Description:
? Manages research and development activities; supervises product engineering, in the design of Fastener Installation Tooling.
? Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of released tooling.
? Supervises new tooling design.
? Reviews manufacturing and engineering change requests.
? Supervises the design of special products.
? Provides technical assistance to sales personnel in evaluating and designing special products, as well as troubleshooting and problem solving.
? Supervises research activities designed to improve existing products.
? Develops and tests new products, materials, tools, and processes.
? Determines the priority of each research project.
? Serves as advisor on product quality team meetings.
? Confers on and approves trouble report evaluations.
? Assists marketing in major product demonstration.
? Establishes and updates annual departmental objectives; prepares research and development budgets; controls expenditures within budget constraints.
? Directs the activities of subordinates; makes recommendations for hire, disciplinary action, promotions, and salary adjustments.
? Members of the engineering change request committee to determine what engineering changes should be made.
? Sales and marketing personnel to coordinate the design of special products.
? Department managers to complete engineering and research and development activities.
? Customers to discuss special products, problems, and to investigate product failures.
? Vendors to discuss material requirements, and product quality.
Qualifications:
Seven to ten years experience in mechanical engineering with three to five years in a management position.
Education Preferences:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field (or equivalent).
? MS Degree a Plus.
