Rolls-Royce is pleased to announce an opening for a Controls Modeling Engineer in our Indianapolis, IN facility.
The successful candidate will:
Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices to produce and/or coordinate the solutions to complex problems encountered in the design and development of integrated mechanical/electrical systems.
Develop controls system, gas turbine engine, and hydro-mechanical mathematical models and computer simulations (both real time and non-real time). Define requirements for control system and engine mathematical models and simulations. Define gas turbine engine control logic and perform validation to ensure system requirements are met. Perform transient and linear analysis in support of control logic development. Perform various analytical studies in support of engine development and operability assessment. Coordinate analysis activity with controls/engine project groups and controls vendors. Support engine and flight testing including data analysis. Coordinate customer support with respect to control system problem resolution; perform accident / incident investigation and litigation support as appropriate. Coordinate, train and review analytical studies made by others in support of assigned engine programs. Maintain active role in select professional societies to maintain Rolls-Royce presence and incorporate lessons into Rolls-Royce products. Contribute to Rolls-Royce global community. Provide estimate of schedules for analytical studies and apprise management of progress. Make summary presentations and prepare reports for customers and internal management.
Position requirements include:
BSEE, BSME, BSAE or applicable college engineering BS required. MS preferred. Experience on the order of 10 - 15 years in related engineering work that demonstrates knowledge of the interplay of the engineering disciplines that affect gas turbine engine control system design decisions. Ability to model system behavior using tools such as SIMULINK and EASY5 required. Proficiency in high level software languages, e.g. ADA, C, FORTRAN preferred. Must be able to work and lead groups of people in quest of a common goal. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Must be able to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably. Evidence of creative design experience. Must be able to learn new industry, company, product, and technical knowledge quickly. Must be able deal with controversial issues and resolve conflicts. Must be able to explain technically difficult concepts clearly, concisely in writing, presentations, and verbally. Must be capable of managing multiple tasks in a timely fashion and set priorities. Capable of building relationships with junior engineers, management, and customers.
