Job Title: Database Administrator, SR

 Work Hours:  Mon - Fri - 8:00am - 5:00pm

  Essential Functions:

 Provides subject matter expertise for DBMS installations and migrations for all databases.  Develops processes and procedures to improve database productivity during design, implementation and migrations.  Compares, reconciles, and validates database structures using designated tools.  Performs additions, modifications, and deletions of users and groups.  Creates scripts in Unix or SQL for data modification in databases.  Recovers and migrates databases.  Establishes and maintains DBMS practices and procedures.  Validates compliance to all DBMS practices and procedures during installations and maintenance.  Performs logical and physical database designs and implementations.  Performs database performance analysis and tuning using developed and/or vendor supplied tools.  Performs capacity planning and proactively ensures proper resource availability.  Creates, monitors and reports database statistics using industry metrics. Evaluates and implements database and data architecture solutions for database gateways, data warehousing, and other uses, as appropriate.  Trouble-shoots production and/or customer problems and implements solutions.  Documents weekly status reports and reports time expended.  Provides technical direction, guidance and training to staff, peers, and management as requested or required.  Maintains a state-of-the-art knowledge of database administration, and keeps immediate management informed of changes in technology.  Creates SQL code to facilitate data management and application development.  Performs other related duties, including special projects.  

Education/Experience:

BS in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.  Seven (7) or more years of related and proficient experience with DBMSs in a UNIX environment; using SQL; using MS-Office; Unix Shell Scripting; and using data management tools.  Experience using Oracle or Sybase is desired.  Aviation experience is desired.

Demonstrated proficiency: installing and maintaining DBMS products in Unix and NT environments; designing and implementing database recovery; developing Unix or NT scripts for use in database maintenance; performing Unix File requirements for database installation; performing database design implementation techniques; using data monitoring tools; Client/Server, GUIs, OSs, hardware platforms; with network administration; MS-Office; designing database systems; and trouble-shooting
