Job Description:


Scope: The Database Engineer is responsible for the performance, planning, and execution of net-centric middleware applications and databases hosted and housed in the JWFC Newman Center. This unit provides support for all service oriented servers. The Database Engineer is involved in the design and planning for client production services and server installations under the direction of the Net-Centric Middleware System Engineer. Performs database administration assignments essential to the production and development of database management systems (DBMS) applications. Assignments, which are in direct support of software development and maintenance teams, include database analysis, security support, design, software use, and performance monitoring and tuning. Reviews and ensures integrity via standardized support tools. Ensures that assignments are performed in accordance with database administration guidelines, standards and procedures for applications development, implementation, testing, and migration. Works on complex problems. May determine methods and procedures to be used on new assignments and may supervise or provide guidance to other personnel. Frequently interacts with customers and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.


Education:
Bachelor's degree in related field and 3+ years of related experience.

Desired Skills:
Knowledge and experience with various programming languages to include JAVA. The ability to successfully and positively interact with internal and external clients. Demonstrate excellent written and oral communications skills. Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform logical problem solving. Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on assignments. The ability to use internal application tools effectively.
