Development Chemist

Development Chemist with Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company ? Graham, KY reporting to Manager, Manufacturing Engineering. 

Requirements

MS or BS in Chemistry or related discipline plus 5+ years of experience preferably in a field related to explosives and/or energetic materials. Backgrounds in plastics, paints or caulking compounds will be considered.A primary background in Formulation Development (Compounding) with a focus on explosives principles or its science is ideal. Demonstrated ability to safely formulate and test explosive or energetic formulations is desired. Knowledgeable with the operation of analytical lab equipment such as HPLC, GC and wet chemistry. Must be able to prepare technical reports related to product/process documentation. Background in Lean Manufacturing and Quality Assurance areas is a plus. Ability to conceptualize and apply innovative solutions as well as the ability to apply leadership and interpersonal skills to resolve routine problems.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will: Complete product development projects by developing new or improved formulations, products and/or processes under moderate supervision. Obtain raw materials as necessary and prepare appropriate safety & technical documentation, specifications & samples. Conduct or coordinate all required hazard reviews, performance and stability/compatibility tests and interpret, record and report results. Perform evaluations of competitive products and materials and report findings. Develop pilot or prototype production and manufacturing procedures in conjunction with the appropriate functional groups and be knowledgeable with QC, experimental, developmental & analytical tests on raw materials and finished goods. Interface with other personnel from all departments as required. Design & perform DOE's and FMEA's and resolve routine customer and production or process problems. Assist lab personnel as necessary to assure task completion. May participate in training other associates & technicians as required. Provide leadership and technical expertise to internal and external parties.
