JOB TITLE: Project / Design Engineer

SUMMARY:
May act as Project Manager of development efforts.  As such, provides direction and coordination of a project team to ensure project completion within schedule and budget constraints.  Ensures projects and specific engineering tasks satisfy project technical objectives and design to cost (DTC) targets.  Performs engineering tasks involved in the design and development of new products, during all project phases from the proposal stage to project completion.  Provides engineering support for the manufacture of new and existing products.  Prepares and reviews technical documentation and gives oral presentations to support project needs. Creates designs, rendering, and drawings for new products, and technical proposals using CAD & 3D systems.  Performs other assignments as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least two years engineering experience.
  Minimum of 4 years experience developing drawings.
 Design, analysis, and production experience with textiles, energy-absorbing materials, and/or composite materials and mechanical systems desirable.
 Solid modeling in Pro/CAD, basic drafting, and strong mechanical conceptual skills required.
 Working knowledge of MIL-DTL-31000 Technical Data Package, MIL-STD-100 Engineering Drawing Practices, ASME y14.100M Engineering Drawing Packages, and ASME Y14.5M-1994 (and ANSI Y14.5-1982) Dimensioning and Tolerancing desired.
 Must possess a working knowledge of MIL-STD-973 Drawing Change Practices.
 Must possess a basic knowledge of material properties and manufacturing processes
 Must work with minimal supervision, and possess good planning and time management skills to work in a project team environment.
 Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
 Computer skills:  working knowledge of Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Project.
 Working knowledge of government/military design practices is desired

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Performs engineering tasks to assist in solution of technical problems.  May include research, conceptual design, and analysis, material selection and processing definition.  Performs stress and/or dynamic analyses, using basic engineering formula.  Coordinates detailed engineering analyses with the analysis group.
 Provides technical support for project proposals.  May include:  concept development, technical description, labor estimates, preliminary schedule definition, and generation of project or performance plans and statement of work.
 Generates mechanical design concepts and creates solid models and drawings for parts, components and assemblies.
 Creates drawing packages including separate parts lists.
 Performs "first order" structural analysis using basic engineering formulas and tolerance stacks.
 Coordinates and/or prepares and reviews technical and project related reports.
 Reviews and approves development project related drawings.
 If acting as Project Manager directs and coordinates assigned project team members.
 If not acting as Project Manager, assists the Project Manager with preparation of project schedules and budgets.
 Participates in Material Review Board (MRB) reviews and dispositions for assigned production projects.  Reviews, approves, and when necessary, initiates design changes for assigned production programs.
 Gives oral presentations, such as design reviews to customers or company officials.
 Interfaces with customers and suppliers, as required, to support project needs.  Some travel may be required.
 Supports the Engineering Director with continuous improvement efforts
