Safety Engineer-SSP Integrated Environments

Job Description: Individual will perform the following minimum set of tasks in support of the safe, continued operations of the Space Shuttle Program:
? Maintain relations with Space Shuttle element contractors, NASA Centers and Shuttle Integration Office to assure integrated hazards related to operations are identified, documented and verified.
? Provide evaluations of Shuttle Integration/Flight Operations Requirements Documents as they relate to integration issues.
? Review change papers for the Shuttle Integration control boards (SICB) & Joint Mission ICB and provide risk assessments as well as pre-board/panel safety issue briefings to appropriate NASA Board/panel representatives.
? Provide technical presentations as required at Program and Project boards/panels.
? Provide coordination for element and/or subsystem safety engineers to support Flight Operations issues at various discussion panels and boards.
? Provide technical presentations as required at Program and Project boards/panels.
? Provide real-time flight support to the Flight Control Center Mission Evaluation Room (MER).
? Occasional travel is required.
Education: BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering
Required Skills: Must have a minimum of 4 to 7 years related experience in space flight operations, as it relates to Space Shuttle elements, i.e. SSME, RSRM, and ET. Knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics and transport analysis is a must. Applicant will possess the ability to complete job assignments with minimum supervision. Must pass security checks required for MER access. Must be proficient in PC-based office software applications for word processing, database operations, and internet connectivity. Excellent oral presentation and technical writing abilities are required. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.
Desired Skills: Experience related to ascent phase operations is desirable as well as experience in operational risk assessment and console operations. Proficient knowledge in shuttle systems engineering and Integration (Element to Element Interfaces). This knowledge level includes (but is not limited to), Wind tunnel testing, Integrated Hazard reports, Interface Control Documents, hazard analysis, failure assessments and mission operations.
