Servo Engineer

EMS Technologies, Inc. is a leading provider of technology solutions to wireless and satellite markets. We are currently seeking a Servo Engineer in our Defense & Space Systems division. This division develops advanced technology hardware for military and space applications, including providing commercial and military customers with critical subsystems and components for terrestrial, airborne and space-based communication, radar and electronic warfare systems.

 

Responsibilities:

 

This position will analyze designs and integrate and debug Servo Control Systems. The ideal candidate will have a broad spectrum of talent from analytical to hands-on testing capabilities understanding the end-to-end process. Duties include system/servo analysis in the support of proposal generation, in support of program requirements analysis and in support of system performance analysis and testing. Implement feedback loops and state machines to meet specifications for high accuracy positioning system including stabilization and acquisition and tracking algorithms. Design and architect methods to characterize system dynamics such as friction, moment of inertia, backlash etc. Create MATLAB/Simulink models based on system characteristics to develop and simulate complex control loops. Implement, test and debug control system on deliverable hardware.

 Responsibilities will involve the development of control system specifications and conducting the subsequent modeling, design, simulation, code development and test methodologies for multiple servo systems.Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent tools for control design, and with real-time embedded software implementation is required.Perform all aspects of control system development with emphasis on real-time software implementation of state machines and control algorithms.Diagnose and help resolve system-level problems and use software tools to help isolate software, firmware, and hardware defects.Analyze performance characteristics of system, including frequency response, step response and statistical tracking performance.Ability to design, implement and validate complex statistical filtering and estimation processes such as Kalman Filtering, Partical Filtering, etc.Ability to work independently, within the customer time constraints in a cost effective manner.Communication skills for effectively working with technical customers including presentation skills and technical publications.Capable to effectively convey ideas and concepts to other less-experienced team members.

 

Education and Experience:

 

Requires a MS degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, a minimum of 10 years experience in Servo Control Theory. Must have experience with MATLAB, Simulink or equivalent, MathCad, Solid Edge, Write C/C++ code for embedded language and all Windows applications.

 

Other/Special Requirements:
