In this position you will serve as the Principal Investigator on key projects for the Engineering Mechanics team for the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL).  You will develop outside business with the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and firearms (BATF).  Your activities will span a complete spectrum of advanced engineering research and development and include planning, budgeting, explosive testing, and development of new business proposals.  You will participate in numerous classified meetings affecting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and discussing new terrorist threats/counter measures.  You will be responsible for business development within the AFRL engineering Mechanics and Explosion Effects Research Group.

Experience in the following areas is required:

PhD with 5 years experience.
Ability to obtain sponsorship for research programs in the area of dynamic structural response to blast and fragmentation effects, and execute these programs within schedule and budget restraints, and providing technical documentation on the research results.
Knowledge and experience in finite element analysis/modeling.
Strong knowledge of the Department of Defense Planning, Programming, and Budgeting System (PPBS).
Demonstrated ability to publish research results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Demonstrated ability to present research results at appropriate national and international trade conferences and research symposia.
Knowledge and experience in chemical and physical properties of structural materials and pavements.
Knowledge and experience in analysis of failure of advanced and conventional civil engineering materials including fracture mechanics.
Knowledge and experience in micromechanics theory and application to structures and pavements.


Experience in the following areas is an asset:

Knowledge and experience in applications of dimensional analysis.
Experience in numerical modeling, validation experiments, and response measurement.
Knowledge and experience in continuum mechanics.
Experience in explosives blast effects measurement, detection, modeling, etc.
