SPORTS:  Job code 1110-PDS-062204

The complex requirements of modern, state-of-the-art sports facilities present a number of architectural and engineering design challenges that demand particular expertise to ensure project success.  Heery has demonstrated a thorough understanding of these requirements and the ability to translate complex programs into successful facilities that are completed on time and within budget.  A leader in the industry, Heery has an established track record of success, having designed more than 180 major sports facility projects in the past 35 years throughout the United States and internationally.  Heery has achieved a thorough understanding of the needs associated with sports activities, spectators, and facility support/service requirements of the owner.  The firm has utilized new technology for movable, telescoping, and rotating stands in multipurpose facilities, ensuring facility flexibility to handle a variety of events.

Heery's project experience, encompassing professional, minor-league and collegiate sports facilities, has included covered, partially covered and open-air facilities for baseball, football, soccer, track & field basketball, tennis, racquetball, volleyball, concerts, swimming, and other mass-spectator events.  Collegiate and university experience includes Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) facilities.  Additionally, our experience includes the design of locker rooms and training areas, team and facility offices, concession and vending needs, press boxes and lounges, private suites and VIP areas, signage, scoreboards and control booths, and parking and security provisions, all in consideration of design for cost savings and maintenance.

Heery's Sports Facility Practice Group was organized in 1963 specifically for the design of the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.  Heery continued our tradition of sports facility design excellence as prime architect in a design consortium of five local Atlanta firms for the $210 million Georgia Dome Stadium and Convention Center, which was completed on schedule in 1992.  Also contributing to Heery?s advancement of sports excellence in the U. S. was our role as the lead firm in the facilities planning and documentation to secure the successful international competitive bid for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games for Atlanta.  Heery led the joint venture of professional firms commissioned by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games to design the new 85,000-seat Olympic Stadium in Atlanta, which was converted after the 1996 Olympics for use by The Atlanta Braves.

Heery is seeking to identify highly qualified individuals to assume several key positions in the Sports Studio.  The ideal candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of project design, production, or management experience, with particular emphasis in collegiate or professional sports facilities. These individuals should be proficient with computer based design and/or management tools such as Microstation, AutoCad, Form Z, Freehand, Photoshop, MS Office, and MS Project.  A professional degree in Architecture is required and registration is preferred.  Compensation for these positions will be commensurate with experience.
