Design Director (Ritz Carlton Hotels and Residences)

 

Marriott International, Inc., named by Fortune Magazine as "The most admired Company in the Lodging industry", has an immediate opportunity for a Design Director at its Corporate Headquarters in Bethesda, MD.  This key position within the Architecture & Construction Department is responsible for directing the design on all Ritz Carlton projects to ensure quality control, brand compliance, operational acceptability and adherence.   Ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience, is self-motivated, possesses communications, design, and project management skills, and has experience working on large, complex commercial projects, managing multiple consultants.  Must be able to take a project from design through construction process.  Up to 30% domestic and international travel.  Some relocation assistance provided.

 

Responsibilities



 

? Represent the Architecture & Construction division both internally and externally, on projects to senior representatives (Development, Regional Market teams, Owner & Franchise Services).

? Will support Hotel Development on new deals (new construction or conversions).

? Make site visits to properties and assist in the Project Improvement Plans (PIPs) Process.

? Make presentations to senior leaders and owners to gain their approval of the recommendations.

? Provide leadership, management direction and guidance to relevant internal and external team members to ensure that they have the necessary information to complete their responsibilities.

? Partner with business unit leaders to market and sell the assigned brand to key new and existing owners/franchisees to expand brand recognition and promote development opportunities.

? Represent the company at the highest level as a face of the hotel brand.

? Sell/influence owners/franchisees using Marriott?s expertise and knowledge to gain more business.

? Act as liaison and point-of-contact for owners to ensure excellent service and problem resolution.

? Advise and update owners regarding brand and design standards and initiatives.

? Responsible for selecting, negotiating and contracting with project consultants, directing and supervising their work, and administering their contracts, approving payment requisitions, etc.

? Obtain approval of funding from Hotel owners, developers and/or operations, and ensure work is clearly authorized and proper procedures are being followed.

? Lead the development of business processes and monitor processes for continued relevance.

? Support Project Management during the construction phase to maintain adherence to quality, budget and schedule.

 

Qualifications

 A Bachelor?s degree is required in Architecture, Construction Project Management, or related area.M.A. in Architecture highly desirable.Architectural license a plus.15+ years progressive experience in architecture, design development, and project management within commercial, institutional, or multi-unit residential buildings.  Some hotel design experience is highly desirable.Strong communication skills (verbal and written).Solid supervisory skills.Solid project management skills; ability to multi-task.Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.Solid problem-solving skills.Solid interpersonal skills.
