The Microsoft Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation, monitoring and management of all Microsoft servers, Enterprise messaging (Exchange and Blackberry) environments, and tape backup and storage infrastructure (both SAN and NAS), as well as management and oversight of associated hardware / software, and vendor communications. Responsibilities will include day to day administration, short and long term strategic planning and management, as well as other duties as assigned. The candidate must have extensive experience supporting campus based environments, as well as experience working with web based architectures and technologies. Experience working in a B2C environment is a big plus.
In addition, the candidate will assist the network engineering group as needed. We are estimating approximately 70% of working time will be devoted to System Administration, and 30% to network related tasks. Familiarity with networking protocols and topologies, and hands-on network administration experience required.
Key Responsibilities:
?Install, configure, maintain, support and manage Microsoft Windows NT4.0, 2000 and 2003 servers across multiple locations, including Active Directory Domain Controllers, Microsoft Domain Name Servers [DNS], Internet Information Servers [IIS], and SQL servers (standalone and clustered).
?Perform root cause analysis on persistent or major server related hardware, software & application related problems.
?All aspects of security surrounding Microsoft technologies. This includes but is not limited to user authentication, file encryption and other validation schemes. In addition, significant design and troubleshooting experience for DNS, DHCP, WINS, File and Print Services based on Microsoft technologies is a must.
?Manage, maintain and support a multi-location e-mail, messaging, tape backup and storage infrastructure.
?Perform network related administration and troubleshooting (switching, routing, security, VPN) as needed.
?Be on call and respond to emergencies 7/24/365.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
High School Diploma required. College work / degree in Computer Science / Engineering preferred. Technical certifications (MCSE, CCNA, etc.) desired.
Minimum Previous Experience Requirements:
?3-5 years of direct engineering and administration experience in a campus-based environment. In-depth knowledge of Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / 2003 administration.
?Hands-on experience with system backups (Veritas Netbackup, Legato), availability, scheduling, server capacity, monitoring (Nagios) and performance analysis / tuning. Strong familiarity with Microsoft Clustering, antivirus solutions (Trend Micro preferred), WINS, DHCP, RAID, server hardware, networking and SAN/NAS technologies (Network Appliance, EMC) and administration.
?In-depth knowledge of Active Directory (AD), domain controllers and replication, Microsoft Active Directory Integrated DNS, LAN/WAN topology, IT processes and procedures, security, and systems implementations.
?Significant experience configuring, troubleshooting and administering an Exchange 2000 (soon to be 2003) / Blackberry 4.0 environment.
?Strong working knowledge and experience (minimum CCNA level skills) required in networking including TCP/IP, switching, routing, VPN, firewalls and content switching.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
?Experience in configuring, securing, managing and maintaining a highly available Windows NT / 2000 / 2003 active directory based environment.
?In-depth experience with performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery planning.
?Strong working knowledge (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) of the following:
oExchange 2000 / 2003
oBlackberry Enterprise 4.0 for Exchange
oMS SQL 2000 Standard and Enterprise
oVeritas Netbackup 4.5 (plans to migrate to Legato Networker)
oNetwork Appliance and EMC Storage (SAN and NAS) ? Preferred, but not required
oCisco switches and routers
oPix, Netscreen and Nokia firewalls
?Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal settings.
?Strong interpersonal skills needed to team well with peers, customers, project managers, and vendors.
?Vendor Management. Work closely with vendors on installations, upgrades and troubleshooting.
?Ability to work independently with little supervision
?Excellent problem solving and communication skills
?Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary to support 7/24/365 environments. Frequent local travel may be required.
