Senior Designer: Architecture

This position reports to the Discipline Director, and Assistant Director of Architecture as well as the Senior Architectural Design Leader and performs work primarily for the Architectural Department.  This position will also support, on an as-needed and as-available basis, the efforts of the Business Development and Marketing Departments.

 

This position is a design resource and mentor for all Platform level architectural staff as well as the Senior Designer for architectural projects involving programming complexity and design (aesthetic) opportunities and/or requirements.  This position is responsible for establishing design concepts and functions as the leader of design teams in presenting and selling design concepts to clients and other project stakeholders. From an organizational standpoint this position is responsible for helping to maintain the aesthetic design direction of the firm within his or her Platform location, which will contribute to MWZ?s identifiable architectural signature.

 

When involved directly as a project lead designer the Senior Designer is part of a multi-disciplinary team of designers, and works jointly with the Project Architect to ensure the success of the project.  Within the project organization, the Senior Designer is responsible to the Project Manager in matters of compliance with contract terms and requirements as well as scope, schedule and budget.

 

Summary of Requirements regarding Position Skills and Experience

 Minimum of a BArch and ideally a MArch.10 to 15 years of post-degree, relevant and progressively responsible experience working within a commercial architectural environment with duties primarily focused on design, presentation, programming, schematic design and design-development.Architectural registration in at least the state of residency and preferably an NCARB certificate.USGBC LEED registration.Experience in large-scale complex science, technology and research facilities for commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental clients with particular desirability for experience working with current and target clients of MWZ.Experience with any of the following market segments preferred: semiconductors/electronics, bio-pharma, R & D, laboratory, corporate office and militarySuperior communication skills; speaking, writing, listening, respondingSuperior graphic presentation skills; hand-sketching and rendering as well as multiple forms of computer techniques including AutoCAD, 3D Studio Viz, Photoshop, SketchUp, M-color, etc.Experience leading activities for programming, master-planning and feasibility/conceptual design studies on complex (multi-million dollar) building projectsRecord of personal credit for architectural design awards, publications, papers, presentations, symposiums/seminars and other forms of recognition for excellence related to architectural designAbility, desire, and commitment to working in a pro-active manner with platform level designers and junior staff to mentor, train, lead and establish professional, inspired and dynamic environment for creation of architectural solutionsProfessional demeanor in all aspects of work Positive and forward-thinking attitude relative to cross platform project execution.Sincere interest in seeking unique and creative architectural solutions that achieve their character and functionality in coordination with project program and budget and full collaboration with engineering systems.
