Software Engineer, Java

Description:
The primary role for this position will be to work on that is utilized by Sony Connect?s digital content distribution services. The ideal candidate must be a skilled Java developer with experience in web development and applications development. The role will primarily be focused on development of sub-components and specific tasks that fit into larger projects. This position will report into the Director of Technology.

Responsibilities:
?Work in a team environment
?Carry out specific tasks as specified by Sr. Software Engineers or Principal Engineers.
?Report issues and/or problems encountered during implementation tasks
?Apply best practices and standards as set by seniors within the engineering group
?Assist in debugging, deployment and maintenance efforts
?Learn new technologies as specified by manager
?Effectively communicate problems, status and other issues encountered during the implementation phase
?Write simple unit tests for most components



Required skills:
?2+ years of hands-on experience with J2EE 1.4 and/or Java EE 5 technologies
?Experience implementing solutions using Oracle (or other RDBMS) as the data store with hands-on SQL experience for queries
?Experience building web based solutions with enhanced UIs with HTML, DHTML, CSS, and JavaScript
?Experience with XML
?Experience using JUnit
?Experience using source control systems (e.g. Perforce, CVS, Subversion, etc?)
?Experience building both consumer facing web based solutions as well as intranet/extranet type applications for internal users and partners
?Great communication skills
?Ability to comprehend modeling and use case documents to correctly implement features and functionality
?Ability to select appropriate use of algorithms, patterns and coding techniques


Desirable Skills:
?Experience using best-of-breed and/or common open source frameworks/servers/tools: Spring, Struts, log4j, Apache, Tomcat, Ant, Maven
?Experience with Hibernate and Ibatis frameworks
?Experience using Ant and editing/maintaining build scripts
