Systems Engineer position available to support the Northeast Region and various areas of the country where customers require the assistance of a wireless networking expert.



The ultimate goal of the systems engineer is to provide technical assistance to accounts in a way that progresses the account sales activity to a point of closure. This includes several levels of support for end-user customers, Value Added Resellers and the Account Executives.

 

This includes being familiar with all FCS hardware, FCS peripheral devices and third party products that will assist the customer in achieving their project objective. This can also include preparation of technical presentation materials for one-on-one or group presentations and answering or researching to provide answers to customer questions, loading demo software to highlight FCS product capabilities. Provide support for hardware evaluations, software development and project roll outs.

 

Phone calls and visits to major accounts at all levels including Senior Executive levels,  as required insuring that there are no outstanding issues with hardware evaluations and that projects are based on sound technical principles given the product(s) chosen. Systems Engineers must keep Account Executives informed of their activity in accounts and when possible document recommendations and services provided to an account. Consulting and trouble shooting on both a pre and post sales bases are a large part of this support role.

 

Systems Engineers may be asked to take on special projects during the course of the year. These may include developing training programs for the sales team, compiling technical competitive analysis, creating technical presentations for the other Systems Engineers, developing demo software, writing a utility program, or building other useful items that will benefit the sales and/or Systems Engineering teams.



Education:

Engineering, networking (wired and wireless) and/or Technical Customer Service; BS EE or Equivalent Preferred

 TCP/IP – Knowledge of TCP/IP is very important in troubleshooting wireless networks, as it is the primary communication protocol used in wireless LANs.  Frequently, problems that are frequently attributed to the wireless LAN, are actually TCP/IP configuration problems such as incorrect subnet masks, incorrect default gateway, excessive multicast traffic, etc.  There are numerous books, training, and certifications that focus on this subject.  It is important for the trainee to choose reference material or training that is vendor neutral and delves on the fundamentals of TCP/IP. Fundamental Networking – Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts such as the OSI Layer, Routing, and Switching is key to successful troubleshooting of wireless LANs. Training and/or Certification Exam (Highly Recommended) Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) 802.11 Wireless LAN Fundamentals Training and/or Certification Exam (Required) Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) 802.11 Wireless Security – Required Training and/or Certification Exam (Required) Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP) 802.11 Wireless Frame Analysis – Training and/or Certification Exam (Highly Recommended) Certified Wireless Analysis Professional (CWAP)

 

Familiarity with mobile computing products such as laptops, tablet PC’s or handheld computing devices is a plus.  Also any experience with mobile computing peripherals such as PC Cards, Mobile printers, GPS, Wireless LAN or WAN, Bar Code Scanning, MSR, or USB devices is desirable.

 

Experience:

The ideal candidate should have 3-5 years experience working with mobile computers, 3plus years experience configuring and troubleshooting wireless and wired networks. The candidate should also have excellent technical skills to assist in debugging and resolving customer issues and posses a natural curiosity to investigate and resolve complex technical product issues.  He/she must also posses excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate detailed technical finding to FCS management and to our customers. He/she should have some experience in pre and/or post-sales support via the phone and direct customer visits. Technical training/presentation experience will be directly applicable to the position as well.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires national travel along with intermittent travel to the FCS Corporate Campus in Sunnyvale, California.
