Assistant Art Director

Company Profile:

Thompson and Company is a privately held specialty consumer catalog and e-commerce business based in Tampa Florida.  Currently, the business merchandises and distributes three catalogs to a national audience; Thompson Cigar, Linen Source and Casual Living.  The combined business have experience a strong growth in sales and customer base of approx. 7.0 million house files.  The Fulfillment and Distribution function is also located in Tampa with a 175,000 sq. ft. primary facility and four satellite warehouse locations totaling an additional approx. 75,000 sq. ft.

 

The Assistant Art Director will assist the Catalog Art Director in maintaining consistency across all creative channels pertaining to Linensource. To be successful in this postion, one must be a conceptual thinker and designer, exhibit strong presentational and computer skills, and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Responsibilities include:

1. Attend all Creative meetings: Walk-through, Turn-in, Design review, Creative turn-in, Final edit and Scheduling.

2. Design layouts for House, Prospect and Remail catalogs. Plus: sale flyers, email announcements,collateral pieces, and other special projects.

3. Create a master book for each current catalog to include layouts, shot sheets, and any product information for the Freelance Photo Art Director and Art Director prior to the photo shoot.

4. With Production Artist, ensure all changes and revisions (type and design) are implemented, completed and proofed for accuracy before Art Director review.

5. Prepare all current photography (crop, resize) going to the website along with the marketing copy. Maintain a working relationship with Linensource web coordinator.

6. Maintain research and a "library" for all design needs: colors, fonts, type styles, etc...

7. Review competitor catalogs and advertising, and help Art Director with library of competitor catalogs and shelter magazines.

8. Work on special projects as designated by the Art Director.

9. Proficiency skills in Quark, PhotoShop and Illustrator mandatory. Knowledge of web and web design helpful.
