Catalog Art Director

This position is responsible for developing, executing, and managing design direction with regards to marketing, merchandising and page layout.

Core Accountabilities:

Seasonal Concepting
Work with Merchandising to understand product point of view and end-use for the season.
Brainstorm for seasonal concepts
Translate conceptual input from external sources.
Create conceptual presentation materials for communication to internal partners.
Develop layout solutions to support merchandising/product challenges for the season.
Develop a seasonal spec sheet.
Develop photo plans as needed.

Catalog Merchandising Execution
Ensure all business initiatives are delivered on time and support objectives.
Partner with merchants to identify spread objectives and focus.
Establish initial design solutions for Catalog spreads based upon: seasonal concept, marketing Direction, merchandising/product presentations, adjacencies/flow/pacing,
Give art direction to Page Designers and ensure design solutions meet expectations and business objectives.
Mentor Page Designers.
Provide shot counts to Photo Administration.
Attend walkthrough meetings and document fit/styling needs based on merchant feedback.
Attend internal/external project and layout reviews.
Direct Print Buyers/FM Team regarding: visual representation (ie: cloning, color correction, etc.) and color approvals.
Edit film as needed.



Skills and Experience:

5+ years experience preferably in catalog print communications in either a corporate or agency environment.
Demonstrated art direction skills to include directing concepting
Experience developing design solutions for catalogs spreads.
Experience guiding graphic designers to ensure design solutions meet expectations and business objectives.
Cooperative and effective team player with outstanding presentation and communication skills.
Proven successful experience working in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
A portfolio of representative work will be required.
BA or AA degree in design or graphic design desired.
Computer proficiency in the following programs: InDesign, Photoshop, Cumulus, FileMaker Pro, MS Office
