Exhibit Manager & Technical Director for Christmas Holiday Attraction
Exhibit Manager
& Technical Director
Grapevine, Texas
International Special Attractions, Ltd. (ISA) is an international theatrical and attractions production company specializing in two-way performing arts, special events projects and exhibit attractions across North America and within China. With a 20+ year history of presenting the Incredible! Acrobats of China in North America (including engagements on Broadway, and numerous countries around the world) and over a decade of experience in presenting international stage talent in Asia, ISA is the largest organization with the deepest history in the field of cultural arts and exhibition presentation in the US and China.
ISA has an opening for an experienced Attraction Manager with technical direction knowledge and experience to work in a very exciting, high-energy, and unique project environment in Grapevine, Texas.
ISA will present for the second year an attraction titled 'ICE!' . . . A Christmas holiday exhibit created out of two-million pounds of ice carved into the icons of Christmas. The Exhibit Manager/Technical Director will work under the mentorship of one of ISA's experienced Associate Producers to coordinate, manage and fulfill the needs of this project.
The successful candidate will have the overall responsibility to coordinate and administer the entire project on a local basis from installation, operation thru strike and close. The job role requires both intuitive mechanical aptitudes along with recognized and respected people skills. The job involves the coordination and oversight of an assembly of vendors providing attraction elements including electrical power distribution, low temperature refrigeration, large scale tent construction, exhibit display assembly, theatrical lighting, carpentry and materials handling.
This person will directly interface with ISA?s client (a major resort and convention center), a team of 45 skilled ice carving artisans from the People?s Republic of China (and their translators), as well as 3rd party vendors to the attraction project. Therefore, the ability to function in a diverse cultural environment is a must. At one moment Exhibit Manager/Technical Director may be addressing a corporate client, the next a client vendor to the attraction, and then immediately need to address a cross-cultural issue with the Chinese artisans. Candidate must have the ability to seamlessly relate to the client management team, guests to the attraction, the passions of the creative talent constructing the displays, and the needs of a professional stage/exhibit crew . . . at times personally challenging, but always professionally rewarding.
Successful candidates for this job in the past have largely come from the theatrical stage and convention exhibition industry. ISA is now opening it?s search field to include not only persons familiar with live stage production management (sets, scenery, theatrical lighting, show load-in, performance and load-out), but also in the large-scale exhibition and touring attraction industries.
This is a professional position and pays on the basis of the candidate?s work history in concert with the market rate for this skill-set as found in the theater and attraction/exhibition industry.
Successful candidates for this job opportunity must be team oriented, culturally sensitive, and be a self-starter. We are looking for an intelligent and skilled person who is ready to take ownership of this project and be part of a successful team whose quest is to present a highly professional, polished and extremely unique, one-of-a-kind holiday exhibition. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to think quickly, suggest solutions to problems, and handle multiple tasks is imperative.
Previous experience in areas such as theatrical production, attraction management, special event planning and presentation, theater technology, live performance and other event presentation is preferred. Also hands-on management level persons who have worked in producing international touring museum displays, major expositions, trade fairs and exhibitions will also be carefully considered.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has worked as a production director or manager in the theater, television, film, special events industry or the attraction and exhibition fields and is looking to move up to the next level of duties and management responsibilities.
A high sense of work ethic is a must along with attention to details and documentation. An attitude and spirit of 'whatever it takes to get the job done' is required. As ISA works in the entertainment industry, be forewarned that at times the work days will be very long, and for the period from October 10 to November 20 there will be no days off. During the operational period of the show from November 21 thru the close of the attraction (early January) time off may be limited to part-days occasionally during the week. Furthermore, as this is an attraction of carved and sculpted ice displays, extensive work on a daily basis will take place in the sub-freezing environment of the exhibition hall.
This job is seasonal, with work initiating in mid-September and continuing though mid-January of 2006. (You will be required to attend familiarization and planning meetings as we prepare for the event between your engagement date and the September full-time engagement) This is our sixth year with this production on a multi-year contract with our client, but it will be the second time this attraction will be presented in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
Your excellent performance this year may qualify you for a full-time position with the firm (may require relocation) and will assure you of employment again in the fall of 2007 with this multi-year event.
Persons in the past who have started at this level with ISA have over the years been elevated to full time Technical Directors, Project Managers and Associate Producers of our international shows and events. In effect, we are looking for someone who is available now for a short-term project, but you never know what may happen. Our firm produces shows and presents attractions world-wide, so having a passport is always a good thing to have in your pocket when you work for ISA.
