Manager, Stage Operations

Job Description: The Manager, Stage Operations will serve as the on-site representative for on-lot feature films and television shows, including TV pilots for Disney & Prospect Studios. Represent the studio facilities and studio-owned equipment during certain aspects of physical production including set construction, film production and striking of sets, i.e. activity concerning attachments to the stage structure.




Job Responsibilities

Orientation of appropriate production Department Heads and Crews (ex. Lighting, Grip, Etc) to Company policies and procedures with regards to safe operations while on lot, and identifying appropriate company contacts for them. This would include involving the correct internal or external contacts to assess floor and grid loads.


Regular inspection and scheduled repair of production facilities. Oversee inspection process for studio-owned fall protection to ensure that equipment is ready at all times and safe for use by Disney employees only. Periodic unannounced inspections of set construction areas, and production sets, to ensure compliance with studio rules and regulations, and to maintain the integrity of company production facilities.


Safety on the set while filming on stage or on lot location. Staying abreast of changes in company safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety concerns as they arise. As well as, adopting and distributing written policies and procedures.


liaison for on-lot shows with company Risk Management, Safety, Fire and Construction departments as required for production needs as they pertain to the facility, safe operation of equipment on lot, rigging and special effects, focusing on the direct interaction between these departments and the physical studio facility. Work with Studio Safety department to complete regular stage safety inspections, and follow up on any action items that result from those inspections. Coordinate with Human Resources regarding the posting and placement of all required postings.


Other duties as assigned.

This position requires 7-10 years of hands-on experience in union grip or set lighting feature and/or t.v. production capacity. Supervision of one the the functions highly recommended. Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of grip/ set lighting for feature film and/or television production. General knowledge and familiarity with the operations of a motion picture / television production company and the various details of how all production crafts do their work.

Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, problem solving and diplomacy skills will be required in regular interactions with all levels of production.
