Public Relations Editor

Responsibilities: Serve as editor of Chapman Magazine, Pinnacle Magazine, various University Advancement-produced newsletters and other publications.  Provide leadership and project management in the planning, development and coordination of print and electronic internal and external communications projects, programs, and events of key significance to the goals and objectives of University Advancement (UA). Responsible for all UA publications from creation through distribution, including some digital photography.  Facilitate and contribute to UA web communications. Provide direction and counsel to create donor solicitation and recognition pieces. Review and approve all UA invitations and development materials. Assist in community relations activities as needed, including handling ?sponsorship? ads on behalf of President?s office. Assist in managing staff writer and PR information on Datatel. Collaborate with the Publications Office to plan and produce development?related high quality publications. Require flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekend hours. May be required to provide own transportation to off-campus locations and involve some overnight travel. Position is located on the second floor of a historic building without elevators.

 

Qualifications:  Required:  Bachelor?s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in planning, producing and distributing high quality newsletters, fund raising brochures and other marketing communications collateral material. Experience in budgeting, project planning and publication traffic. Experience working with graphic designers, printers and mail houses as related to production and distribution of printed materials. Exceptional writing, copy editing and layout conceptualization skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the university. Knowledge of marketing communications strategy. Strong organizational skills, including proven ability in planning and prioritizing multiple projects and completing them in a timely manner. Computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, page layout, Internet and electronic mail software, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite and PageMaker.

 

Desired:  Experience in creating donor recognition materials. Experience working in a fundraising or nonprofit organization. Experience working in a higher education institution. Knowledge of website design and layout. General knowledge of U.S. postal regulations. Working knowledge of Chapman University policies and procedures.
