Software Engineer, Digital Media

The Motion Picture Association of America is seeking a Technology Analyst to work in our Office of Technology department.  This position will be responsible for monitoring the market for new digital media products and technologies, performing content protection and compliance testing of such products, and evaluating and reporting on tools that circumvent the protection on these products or otherwise enable peer-to-peer piracy. Responsibilities/Duties are:Monitor the marketplace for new content protection technologies, digital media products, and circumvention and piracy tools, which would include software-based digital rights management systems,  software-based digital media applications, computer-related media devices, watermarking/fingerprinting technologies, IP networking technologies, circumvention and piracy software tools, and peer-to-peer networking system;Analyze new digital media software and hardware devices for content protection compliance;Analyze tools that circumvent content protection used in digital media player products or otherwise support the infringement of copyrighted content;

? Prepare written test reports for counsel that would be used to pursue content protection compliance enforcement and circumvention litigation initiatives; and

? Manage the acquisition, inventory, and maintenance of testing tools, software, and equipment necessary to conduct the aforementioned tests.

 

Knowledge/Qualifications are:

? Digital Media enthusiast with strong interest and experience working with different PC platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux) running applications such as video compression/authoring software, new digital media download services, peer-to-peer systems as well as computer-related media devices;4-year university degree (BS degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics highly desirable);Requires 1-3 years of software programming experience on multiple platforms and the ability to perform complex software evaluation and compliance testing;Strong understanding of video authoring software and video formats;Ability to analyze (or learn to analyze) networking equipment such as routers and switches, and evaluate the effectiveness of various internet filtering and monitoring technologies; requires strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals;Good organizational skills necessary for management of laboratory operations, including technical procedures, equipment purchase & tracking and reporting results; and

? Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise written test reports for counsel as well as provide oral reports and presentations to MPAA staff and the member company studios.
