South Lee/Florida Gulf Coast University Reporter

One of the most respected and award-winning newspaper Web teams in the world - the folks responsible for Lawrence.com - have moved to Florida and are starting a new weekly print publication and website called Coastalbeat.com, devoted to covering youth culture, alternative culture and entertainment in Southwest Florida.

The Coastalbeat.com reporter will focus on recreation and nightlife extensively, especially in the South Lee County/Florida Gulf Coast University area. In addition to writing feature stories, the reporter?s primary responsibilities will include photography and multimedia storytelling. Secondary responsibilities will include podcasting and helping produce and manage the site?s evergreen content such as the restaurant and nightlife guide.

The reporter should have a strong background in writing and reporting, a good grasp of photography, and be able to write in a magazine style appropriate for an alternative weekly.

The right person should enjoy working in an intense, fun start-up environment and be ready for a wild ride. Knowledge of basic HTML, Photoshop and Flash are plusses.

And because our agile and autonomous team works under the umbrella of one of the largest and most stable diversified media companies in the nation (The EW Scripps Company), you don't have to worry about your checks ever bouncing. If you work with us, your mom and dad will be proud, and your friends will be envious.

To apply, send a resume and three writing samples, and, if possible, a photography portfolio, to Ira Spitzer at ijspitzer@naplesnews.com . Coastalbeat.com offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

This position starts August 1 and is located in Naples, Florida
