We help faculty, students, and staff achieve their personal teaching, learning, and research goals. We have an outstanding opportunity for a Video Conference Consultant who will be primarily responsible for the coordination and operation of a video conference facility serving the University of Washington. As a staff member in the Office of Learning Technologies, this individual works closely with staff in the UW Libraries and UW Medical Center.
Position Responsibilities:
? Coordinate and operate a video conference facility serving the University of Washington.
? Serve as consultant for on-campus or near-end clients, as well as the contact to coordinate with far-end sites for scheduling and all technical aspects of video conferences.
? Maintain and operate conference and transmission technologies that include, but are not limited to, Polycom, IP, ISDN, ConferenceXP, and Access Grid.
? Operate telecommunication equipment, cameras, monitors, audio equipment, computer applications, and other electronic equipment.
? Verify correct operation of conference room equipment, change room configuration as needed, and assist presenters with loading of presentation files, instruct presenters on the use of the podium controls. Control and select the appropriate camera views.
? Troubleshoot transmission and video problems in an efficient, professional manner in time sensitive situations.
? Provide client training, including general information and specific questions related to video conferencing and the use of the facility.
? Research and develop new technologies to enhance our clients? teaching, learning, and research experience.
? Write proposals to request funding for hardware and software purchases.
? Bring personal knowledge and expertise to campus committees for video conference projects such as WWAMI and RIDE.
This individual works closely with the Catalyst Help Desk Manager, other Catalyst, and UW Library staff on special projects, as well as filling requests for various needs. The Video Conference Consultant is expected to learn the features and functionality of all supported software and tools in order to properly communicate with peers and clients.
This position works with the OLT Catalyst Client Services Director, OLT Technology Director, and the Head of Odegaard Undergraduate Library to define strategies and set priorities for academic technology improvements, and will be expected to develop technology specifications and budgets for proposed improvements to campus facilities.
Inherent to success in this position is the demonstrated prioritization skills to include managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:
Bachelor?s degree in Computer & Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications, or comparable degree.
Three years? experience in the maintenance and operation of video conference or audio-visual related equipment.
Functional knowledge of technologies (Polycom, IP, ISDN, ConferenceXP, and Access Grid), principles and techniques associated with video conferencing.
A high level of attention to detail, ability to create policy and technical documents, and communicate well with professionals in a demand-based, service-oriented environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interpret and share technology issues with colleagues and to work collaboratively and independently with students, staff, faculty, librarians, and administrators in a variety of tasks and settings.
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to take the initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility, and establish and maintain quality standards.
High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and the ability to meet deadlines and to complete assigned tasks.
Demonstrated ability to analyze work processes and introduce appropriate technological solutions for greater efficiency of operations.
Flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Licensure/Certification: Certifications by the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) as a Broadcast Technologist and/or Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE) Cable Technician Installer
Condition of Employment:
While the normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, this individual must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of staff and colleagues. Events that will occur outside the normal work schedule include, but are not limited to; videoconferences, staff meetings and training, client consultations, and conferences. This position has stringent deadlines revolving around the academic calendar, which may require extended work hours. The Video Conference Consultant is expected to attend conferences to present published papers, discuss, and showcase our work.
