Designer - textiles (experienced or recent grad)

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To assist in the design and development of new products in all technologies that continues to increase the market share of Guilford for specific accounts. These products must meet the OEM design direction for aesthetics, testing and price. To be a support to the design group and have active participation in meetings and other needs as they are required. Requires a basic understanding of technical textiles, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team. Need to be self motivated and able to address multiple tasks to meet deadlines. To possess a professional appearance and attitude, and a willingness to travel as needed to meet with customers and to do research.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  A graduate of a 4 year college degree program in textile design, surface design, or fine arts. 

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

?  Assist with the designing and development of fabrics for specific accounts.

?  Be competent in the designing and development of CAD work and understanding the capabilities of each technology to produce samples that meet the customer?s criteria.

?  Assist with initiating trials and tracking of fabrics through the manufacturing process, with an eye for assessing color, finish, and design, prior to submission to the customer. 

?  Hands on involvement with sampling and other customer fabric needs.

?  Prepare presentation boards for internal and external projects.

?  Participation with Advanced fabric design and development projects.

?  Pulling together and organizing benchmarking information on fabric competitors and OEM car groups.

?  Write detailed reports on meetings and trend shows, as well as keeping up to date and concise files on program developments.

?   Have direct contact with process engineers in managing the flow of product through the plant.

?  Be prepared and willing to travel to meet with customers for program kick-offs, to make presentations, and to do research, as needed.
