Materials Manager- Port Huron, MI

 

1. BASIC PURPOSE:

 

Responsible for and direct the total material function for two plants including purchasing, receiving, shipping, inventory management, production control and customer service in a repetitive just-in-time manufacturing environment.

 

2. NATURE AND SCOPE/PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 Responsible for overall material planning, production and inventory control working through function supervisors for the implementation of day to day integrated operations.Direct the purchasing function including buyer assignments, overall vendor selection, vendor performance monitoring, involvement in vendor negotiations and contract approval authority.Overall responsibility for shipping and receiving activities involving finished goods warehouse management, staging and shipping to customer releases and controlled truck schedules, receiving of all supplier deliveries, raw material, purchased component and packaging material storage and inventory control.Supervision of the traffic function within limited options mandated by customers.Responsible for security and management of overall inventory levels and achievement of inventory levels and achievement of turn objectives.  Maintenance of customer required finished good levels.  Minimize exposure to obsolescence resulting from engineering changes and end of contract balancing out.Direction of production planning and scheduling to meet customer forecasts, short range production releases and management inventory turn objectives.Responsible for the customer service function to provide up-to-the-minute status of shipments, inventory levels and production schedules to customer expediters.

o  Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of order entry, purchasing, inventory, shop floor and shipping segments of the MRPII system.

o  Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

 

 

3.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, EXPERIENCE, AND MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIED:

 Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar.  Master Degree would be beneficialMinimum of 10 years experience in manufacturing management with at least 5 years experience in materials management.  Repetitive, just-in-time manufacturing experience highly desirable.MRPII experience in a multi-level bill of material environment critical.Strong interpersonal and decision making skills.

o  Experience in vendor negotiations and contract purchasing. Effective oral and written  communications skills.
