Sr. Quality Engineer - Supplier Development

 

This individual will become part of a start-up organization whose mission it will be to manage its plastic commodity.Will be responsible for developing, tracking and managing the progress of both new and existing suppliers.The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring the readiness of a supplier for mass production. The SDE will work cooperatively and proactively with supplier engineering, design engineering and the supplier to guarantee that a successful component part is ready on time, with acceptable quality and with all requirements fulfilled prior to the final assembly validation phase. In addition, the SDE will be responsible for assisting with on-going changes during mass production to ensure conformance to standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Assist with new product development by working with suppliers to ensure that all key APQP milestones are achieved and that their part is ready for mass production launch.

 

Monitor and track the progress of the supplier?s development using APQP, internal

conformance standards and readiness evaluations through mass production launch.

 

Train and educate suppliers on APQP, PPAP, AIAG standards and requirements to develop and improve their ability to meet World Class expectations.

 

Represent company as the primary contact for designated suppliers with all new model activity to ensure that all phases of product development meet program timing and conform to the required quality standards.

 

Review, assess and approve all PPAP submissions for both new model component parts and mass production changes within the SDE?s assigned commodity.

 

Perform annual risk assessment on new model programs to determine high risk candidates for Supplier Development.

 

Perform routine run at rate evaluations at the supplier sites to determine readiness and develop effective actions plans for all issues that will guarantee a successful part for mass production.

 

Provide guidance and direction with corrective actions for designated suppliers.

 

Work with internal groups such as program management, design engineering and quality engineering to resolve component part issues and improve standardization.

 

Support management with all supplier development strategies and initiatives. Provide input and direction on all initiatives in order to constantly improve the overall effectiveness of Supplier Development.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES: 

Completes other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Must have ability to travel on a routine basis not exceed more than 50% monthly.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Bachelors degree in an engineering or technology related discipline or equivalent.

 

Experience: Minimum 7-10 years working in a supplier quality or quality engineering capacity. Minimum four years working with plastic components. Must have experience working with or in conjunction with supplier engineering.  Must possess a strong knowledge of basic quality tools, AIAG standards, PPAP, APQP and automotive quality systems. Knowledge of ISO/QS 9000, or TS 16949 is preferred. Direct experience solving quality problems, developing and implementing quality systems and implementing corrective actions is required. Experience with either internal or supplier based audits is also preferred. Candidate must have strong computer skills, interpersonal skills, written/oral communication skills and the ability to provide leadership and direction in a team environment. 

 

Working Knowledge:  Working knowledge desired in the following areas:  1) General automotive program timing, 2) AIAG Standards 3) Automotive industry.
