RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general direction, provides emergency road services (mainly towing) to

members. Answers member questions regarding service policies. Completes mileage

reports. Maintains equipment and service vehicles, and facility. Provides

prompt, courteous, and efficient emergency road service to members whose

vehicles are disabled. Services to include minor towing, extrication,

recoveries, accidents and jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires,

delivering fuel, unlocking vehicles, and general trouble-shooting of disabled

vehicles. Determines when a disabled vehicle needs to be towed, and tows

disabled vehicles. Responsible for collecting money for towing and other related

services.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic automotive and mechanical knowledge and ability to use service equipment,

including all towing apparatus, floor jacks, lockout tools, jumper cables and

various hand tools, such as wrenches, test light and combination wrenches.

Knowledge of radio codes and procedures. Ability to operate a two-way radio.

Must have command of the English language and must be able to express oneself

effectively verbally to discuss service with members. Must display interpersonal

skills and ability to interact with members, coworkers and others in a

professional and tactful manner. Strong problem solving skills to interpret

mechanic malfunctions, as well as, customer relations. This is an entry level

position requiring a minimum of 2 to 4 years of previous experience. Requires a

valid Automobile Operator?s License, Tow Truck Operator Permit (where required)

with an acceptable driving record.

 

Work is performed outdoors and in a service vehicle, requiring the following

physical activities on a daily basis: lifting and carrying equipment weighing up

to 75 pounds; bending, kneeling and balancing to inspect vehicles and change

tires, 5 to 10 minutes at a time; and pushing vehicle on occasion. Some exposure

to noise from traffic, two-way radios, etc. on a daily basis. Must be physically

able to drive a service vehicle and tow truck.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, exposure to an auto repair facility or vocational training

in Automotive Mechanics preferred. Towing Certification (such as I.T.T.R.).

Familiarity in use of tow equipment preferred.
