Credit Research Analyst

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston is a leading provider for wholesale funding for housing and community development finance in New England. We are currently seeking an experienced professional to help meet the challenges of a highly competitive, dynamic market.

 

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

The Credit Research Analyst is primarily responsible for the efficient fulfillment of the Department?s projects and ongoing responsibilities.  The Credit Research Analyst will analyze FHLB counterparties for unsecured investments, including third-party insurance providers, and make recommendations to the AVP/Credit Research Manager and/or the FVP/Director of Credit.  The Credit Research Analyst also is responsible for the preparation of credit analyses of the FHLB?s long-term investments.  The Credit Research Analyst will accurately prepare monthly data sorts for the FHLB?s long-term investment portfolio and investment counterparties (in Excel) in the Department's prescribed format, and other financial reports as directed by the AVP/Credit Research Manager. 

 

The Credit Research Analyst works closely with the AVP/Credit Research Manager to develop new approaches and methods to efficiently collect information for the long-term investment portfolio, and to produce effective output reports.  The Credit Research Analyst will also review and extract information required for the completion of investment reviews from investment prospectuses and other sources, such as Bloomberg or NRSROs.  In concert with the AVP/Credit Research Manager, the Credit Research Analyst will complete special reports and special projects assigned by the FVP/Director of Credit and senior management.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.  Accurately and efficiently maintain spreadsheets and databases, which are needed for monitoring and analyzing the financial condition of the FHLB?s counterparties and the FHLB?s long-term investment portfolio.  Oversee the timely update of the spreadsheets and databases to reflect the most current information; and maintain current collateral composition, NRSRO ratings, and Watch List status.  Prepare other Data Sorts and reports as directed by the AVP/Credit Research Manager.

 

2.  Complete special projects undertaken to meet the overall goals and objectives of the Credit Department. These special projects often require the ability to create ad hoc reports and narrative analyses using in-house financial databases and external data sources, such as NRSROs, government organizations, and private research organizations. 

 

3.  Prepare analyses of investment counterparties and long-term investments, including third-party insurance providers. 

 

4.  Oversee the efficient maintenance of electronic and/or physical files for counterparties and the FHLB?s long-term investment portfolio. 

 



QUALIFICATIONS:

 Two to four years of experience in a finance, accounting, or a related fieldBachelor?s degree, preferably in finance or accounting.  Master?s degree preferred.Financial or other research experience, in a lead or assisting capacity, preferred. Familiarity with balance sheets and operating statements of financial institutions preferred.Familiarity with secondary mortgage market (GSE and private label) preferred.Strong PC skills, including Excel and Access products.  Experience writing macros and queries in Excel and/or Visual Basic is a plus. Ability and desire to learn areas beyond specific prior experience a must.Strong written and oral communication skills required.
