Job Description

 

Position Title: Portfolio Accountant  Closing Date: August 31

 

Department: OPERATIONS Status: Non-Exempt

 

Reports To:  AVP, Operations Manager  

   

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support portfolio management by opening, maintaining, and closing client accounts on in-house portfolio accounting and trading system (Advent?s Axys and Moxy).  This position supports the highly successful international strategy team and requires close coordination with other operations staff and administrative assistants.  Accuracy and sensitivity to deadlines are essential.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Set up new accounts in Axys and MoxyMaintain accounts, posting additions and withdrawalsNotify managers of unexpected additions or withdrawals, offers requiring response, maturitiesReconcile accounts monthly to custodian statementsResearch and resolve accounting inquiriesUpdate account performance monthly in AxysProduce periodic reports (appraisals, gains/losses, unrealized gains, transactions, etc.)Prepare, mail/fax/e-mail client-requested reports on schedule or at needCoordinate necessary paperwork for client withdrawals or other account changesAccept or make client or custodian calls for information or assistance and follow-throughTake initiative to obtain missing or delayed information or materials when appropriateBack up other portfolio accountants during planned or unexpected absencesMaintain an orderly desk so that back-ups may provide efficient cover when necessary



SKILLS:

 Experience with Advent?s Axys, Moxy and Axys Reports preferred, but experience with any similar portfolio accounting system would be helpfulFamiliarity or experience working with accounts that hold foreign securitiesMicrosoft Office (Word and Excel)Ability to work cooperatively as well as independentlyAbility to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneouslyExcellent organizational skills with the ability to work with detail, accuracy and timelinessStrong analytical and problem solving skillsAbility to communicate effectively in a professional and courteous manner.  Standard English writing and verbal skills requiredWorking knowledge of Bloomberg a plus



EDUCATION:

 

BA preferred or an equivalent combination of experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years relevant and successful work experience in the financial services industry, preferably in portfolio accounting. Good work habits, common sense and unquestioned integrity essential.

Physical ability and manual dexterity to use computer hardware/software  and keyboards, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other standard office equipment.

Physical ability to sit at a desk or computer workstation for up to 8 hours per work shift.

Physical ability to file documents and to carry filing materials up to 10 pounds.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
