VP of Commercial Lending: SBA Section 504

THE CLIENT:  The client is a highly successful and aggressive $1.4+ billion (footings) central Minnesota Banking Company.  Since 1975, this Bank?s growth and earnings have been exceptional; they are now ranked within the top 5 in the country for their earnings ratios.  The Bank is privately held, with its ESOP plan having a significant portion of its stock.

 

The Bank will continue to pursue national and regional business with its specialty-lending programs, including SBA ?504? and USDA lending programs, with an eye to significantly increasing the Bank?s portfolio in each of these areas, as well as its commercial/development Real Estate area and conventional business-lending in the Central Minnesota region.  These programs have earned the Bank well-deserved plaudits for the Bank?s ability to ?get the job done.? 

 

Position:

 

The Vice-President, Lending will be responsible for generating and maintaining a portfolio of Commercial Real Estate and other loans, such as SBA ?504? and USDA-specialty credits. This individual will report to the Senior Vice-President, Commercial Lending and work closely with the Bank?s Marketing and Credit Review organizations to find and qualify borrowers which will contribute to the Bank?s profitable growth.

 

Specifically, the Vice-President will:

 

?  Proactively seek and develop Commercial Lending opportunities, calling on businesses, individuals, and centers of influence to find and pursue these opportunities;

 

?  Determine initial creditworthiness of opportunities, establishing and negotiating elements of the credit (terms, repayments, collateral, etc.,) and presenting opportunities to the Loan Committee for advice or approval;

 

?  Maintain current credit information on prospective or existing Commercial Loan customers, communicating all significant information or changes to the Senior Vice-President and/or Loan Committee as required;

 

?  Keep abreast of new developments and trends in Commercial Lending, and actively participate in the development and implementation of Bank programs which capitalize on these trends;

 

?  Work closely with the Retail Lending group and Branch Manager to cross-sell Bank services and offerings as opportunities emerge;

 

?  Make certain that all Bank policy, regulatory, and legal requirements are fulfilled in administration of Commercial Loans, including (but not limited to) documentation, collateral, etc.;

 

?  Monitor performance of portfolio, identifying emerging problems and taking appropriate corrective action, while communicating  to the Senior Vice-President and/or Loan Committee regarding items which may have an adverse impact on Bank profitability;

 

?  Provide assistance to co-workers on difficult problems, both internal and external, making certain that prompt and courteous customer service remains paramount;

 

?  Perform any and all other additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate for this challenging and very rewarding position will have a combination of the following experiences and attributes:

 

?  At least 10 years? successful experience in credit and Commercial Lending, with good exposure to Commercial Real Estate, SBA ?504,? and USDA lending procedures and policies;

 

?  A successful track record in Business Development, including working with other Bank officers in developing cross-selling techniques, and in creating programs which attract new, profitable customers;

 

?  An excellent understanding of credit principles as well as the regulatory and legal environment; solid background in preparation of proposals for the Loan Committee;

?  A quick and inquisitive mind coupled with an evident and energetic ?take ownership? approach to departmental responsibilities and a demonstrated understanding of overall business strategy;

 

?  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and a history of clear and concise communications with superiors and juniors, customers and prospects;

 

?  A willingness to ?get the job done,? quickly and accurately, for the benefit of the Bank, its customers and prospects, and the Commercial Lending department;

 

?  A Bachelor?s degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred.

 

COMPENSATION:

 

Compensation for this position will include a generous salary plus incentive; in addition, the Bank provides a comprehensive benefit program and ESOP participation.
