16574 Senior Chemist

Job Description: Senior Scientist within the Materials Testing, Analysis and Characterization (MTAC) R&D laboratory. Primary focus of position is Lead Analyst (subject matter expert) for GPC/SEC (molecular weight) analysis of polymers (including biodegradable formulations). Scope of position includes method development and validation, internal customer interface, data interpretation, technical report writing, hands-on testing, equipment qualification/software validation, supervision/mentoring of Technician staff. Keep MTAC @ state-of-the-art relative to GPC/SEC technology development and application. Provide support to R&D, Operations, Legal, and other BSC sites as required.

High level of hands-on experience & expertise in GPC/SEC analysis and method development required (5 years minimum); experience with light scattering detector systems highly desired. Strong working knowledge of polymer science, degradation mechanisms, and processing effects is a must. Experience with other analytical techniques including LC-MS, GC-MS, AFM, FTIR, also a definite plus. Must demonstrate strong communications skills (written and verbal), ability to manage/prioritize high volumes of analysis requests, and aptitude for experimental design and methods development. Four-year degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or related field required; advanced degree preferred.

Position exerts some influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization. Position involves making critical decisions affecting administration of the organization and achieving objectives in a timely and efficient manner. Represents organization as a prime contact on contracts or projects. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
