Associate Technician (scientific)

We are seeking an associate technician for our chemistry lab, exposures group to assist with basic laboratory procedures and train to increase laboratory skills.  This is an entry-level position.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:






Assist with basic tasks (i.e. housekeeping/maintenance, prepare or pre-treat samples, perform exposures, distribute and track samples, and perform minor analytical tests using proper analytical methods and minor laboratory instrumentation).
Learn all applicable corporate and laboratory quality control procedures and policies.
Learn and adhere to NSF safety policies and procedures.
Become familiar with applicable SOPs.
Professional communication through verbal and non-verbal means.
Prepare all records (data, notebooks, chain of custody forms and instrument books) in a timely, thorough and neat manner. Learn proper use of ?travel log? in LIMS/Beaker.
Assist in meeting turnaround time commitments.
Learn and understand the laboratory information system and sample tracking procedures. Learn how to properly request and return samples to the warehouse.
Work with various chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases with MSDS use.
Assist in glassware washing.
Assist in chemical inventory system.
Proper disposal of expired water samples.
Maintain proper levels of supplies, i.e. sample bottles and caps.
Learn and follow established chain-of-custody procedures.
Participate in rotation of work schedules to maintain 7-day lab operations.
Participate in GLP training/studies as needed.
Maintain a clean work area.
Suggest, test, document, and implement process improvements.
Perform other duties as requested.





REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:








Bachelor?s degree in a physical science or Associate degree in a physical science with a minimum of one year of relevant lab experience or a high school diploma and two years relevant lab experience.
Experience with wet and instrumental techniques.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with PCs and Windows applications.
Excellent attention to detail.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:








Bachelor's degree in a physical science with a minimum of one year of relevant lab experience or Associate degree with a minimum of two years relevant lab experience or a high school diploma and three years relevant lab experience.
Familiarity with quality procedures.
Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:
Up to 90% standing, walking between areas within the laboratory and building.
Ability to lift approximately 60 pounds. 
Work with various chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases with MSDS use.
Reaching and handling samples within hot and room temperature settings.
Visual skills required to notice certain aspects of samples and dirty exposure vessels.
