The Automated Lead Optimization group within the Department of Drug Design and Optimization at the Merck Research Laboratories-Boston currently has an opening for a Senior Research Biochemist in focused library screening. The responsibilities of this position include HTS assay development and screening for small molecule leads. This position requires hands-on experience in the area of cellular and biochemical HTS assay development and screen execution. Proficiency with different HTS formats utilizing luminescent, fluorescent, HTRF, SPA and reporter-gene read-outs is required, as is expertise in operating, troubleshooting and maintaining hardware/software associated with automated assays, along with an in depth knowledge of common application software (robotics, plate readers). Strong data management skills and knowledge of the HTS data analysis tools are essential. Candidate must be familiar with processing screening data and preparation of analyses protocols, technical and scientific reports. Strong publication record in the HTS and Lead Optimization fields is a must.

Requirements include a Ph.D., in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Molecular Biology or related science with minimum three years of experience in academia or industry. Scientific training in Neurosciences is preferred A strong record of scientific achievement is required. Excellent interpersonal, communication and team-working skills and effective managerial skills are a must.
