Automation Engineer

Reporting to the PPU Automation Engineering Manager of Wyeth Biotech Engineering, Validation and Maintenance Department, the Automation Engineer will primarily be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations and initiatives within the assigned Primary Processing Unit (PPU). Additionally, the Automation Engineer will be responsible for providing project level support as needed, including specification, design and installation of automation and control systems for commercial and development manufacturing processes, equipment and systems.
Support manufacturing operations and initiatives within the assigned PPU.
? Provide instrumentation, hardware, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) technical expertise and troubleshooting in support of PPU manufacturing operations. This includes support of second shift operations and/or on-call support according to automation coverage schedule.
? Initiate, implement, and test change controls in support of corrective actions and process improvements. Identify potential automation issues and report to the appropriate manager(s). Coordinate implementation and testing with appropriate area manager(s).
? Maintain critical automation documentation including functional specifications, recipe parameter tables, and standard operating procedures.
? Provide subject matter expertise in support of process and equipment corrective action, process improvement, validation, and manufacturing investigations.
? Provide project level support as needed.
? Carry out projects of any scope to design, install and modify plant equipment, processes and facilities including bioreactors, downstream processing equipment and production support systems.
? Define instrument and controls requirements and establish control system design criteria based on engineering analysis and evaluation.
? Provide electrical and mechanical design of automation and control systems from field devices to PLC/SCADA platforms. Insure all designs conform to all applicable codes and regulations such as OSHA, NEC and cGMP.
? Participate in development, testing and implementation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) application software for manufacturing processes, equipment and systems. Provide control engineering support on all commissioning and validation initiatives.
? Define and generate system requirements and functional specifications. Assist in developing control system standards and engineering procedures.
? Participate on Factory Acceptance Tests of equipment and skids. Some limited travel may be required.
? Provide supervision of electrical and mechanical trades and contractors during control system and manufacturing equipment installations.


Requirements:
Position requires a BS/MS in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering with 5-10 years of experience. Experience in a biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry is required.
Experience in the application and development of PLC, SCADA and HMI software is required (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, Intellution/iFix, Panel Builder, RSView machine edition).
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access required.
Knowledge of Visual Basic required.
Knowledge of Oracle databases a plus.

Strong written and oral communication skills required.
