 Opportunity and Responsibilities

Aviir is seeking 2 Bioinformatics Scientists/Java Developers who will develop applications to be used for capturing, storing and analyzing the data coming out of Aviir?s tests. This is a unique, challenging opportunity to make a major contribution to the design and implementation of a novel product that integrates highly innovative technologies in life sciences and computing at a fast-moving company.

 

The Bioinformatics Scientist/Java Developer will be responsible for the following:

♦ Design, develop and document applications for the storage, analysis and visualization of Aviir?s data

♦ Define test cases and success criteria for the selection of a LIMS system

♦ Define test cases and success criteria for the selection of the required clinical databases

♦ Integrate internally developed applications with commercially available solutions in order to provide a seamless workflow

♦ Develop web based solution for direct entry of data from clinical study site and/or partner

♦ Work closely with Computational scientist(s) to incorporate latest analysis methodologies in the workflow

♦ Provide data annotation by integrating publicly available sources of information

♦ Proven ability to design, develop and document complex applications that coordinate database access, analytical tools and visualization components

♦ Prior experience of accessing/integrating data from public databases (GO, ArrayExpress, GenBank, Pfam, etc)

 Qualifications:

♦ MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science

♦ 3+ years of experience developing applications for biotechnology companies

♦ Expert knowledge of the Java platform (J2EE, J2SE, JDBC, JSP, XML, Swing, Hibernate, Servlets, SOAP)

♦ Development experience with Application Platforms such as Tomcat, WebLogic or WebSphere

♦ Excellent knowledge of Oracle and/or MySQL.  Proven ability to develop and optimize queries using SQL, PL/SQL

♦ Ability to develop proprietary schemas for accommodating both lab and clinical data structures

♦ Proven ability to design, develop and document complex applications that coordinate database access, analytical tools and visualization components

♦ Prior experience of accessing/integrating data from public databases (GO, ArrayExpress, GenBank, Pfam, etc)

♦ Ability to work autonomously, but as part of an interdependent team
