Clinical Functional Manager

Summary of Position:   

Is accountable for the functional management of Clinical Trial Managers (CTMs) to ensure successful protocol level execution of all Clinical Operations deliverables for  development projects. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities: Manages the ongoing performance of 6 to 8 CTMs, including annual performance review Provides leadership to develop the Clinical Trial Management function as a Center of Excellence Creates a positive work environment by encouraging mutual respect, innovation and accountability at all levels Develops and motivates others through goal setting, ongoing feedback, formal evaluation, and effective delegation of decision making Ensures that direct reports are trained and proficient in the incorporation of Standard Operating Procedures and ICH/GCP guidelines into clinical trial execution Responsible for resource planning, recruitment, interviewing, and hiring for the CTM group; ensures timely and optimal allocation of staff to all priority projects Regularly communicates with Senior Management on resource requirements and staff performance Provides guidance on the development and implementation of clinical plans Participates in and/or leads management meetings to plan and implement operational activities to increase quality, productivity, and efficiency of the CTM function Reviews and approves expense reports for direct reports Supports and/or leads functional initiatives and participates in Development initiatives, as assigned Partners with the Process Management Standards and Training group and the Clinical Operations leadership team to optimize and continually improve processes; to create and maintain role definitions and standards; and to develop and deploy role-based competency and training programs Anticipates and meets internal and external customer needs and implements feedback mechanism from customers to ensure needs are met Ensures that CTMs establish and maintain optimal reporting relationships with Clinical Program Managers Ensures optimal relationships with key internal partner and stakeholder groups to enable successful leadership of Protocol Execution Teams (PET) Maintains clinical trial management expertise through clinical trial literature review, ongoing awareness of industry practices and participation in professional activities Utilizes appropriate IT systems, and ensures that direct reports utilize and update systems and tools to enable successful trial execution

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:Bachelor?s Degree (Master?s Degree preferred) Minimum of 8-10 years clinical research experience, including 5 years experience in a supervisory role, either as a functional/line manager or co-accountable for performance management within a team matrix, or combination of equivalent experience Demonstrated knowledge in several relevant therapeutic and/or product areas

? Ability to work effectively in a matrix environmentComprehensive knowledge of ICH/GCPsProficient computer skills

This position is basically a manager of managers.  They will be doing very little hands on daily clinical work.  Thier primary responisibility is to oversee the CTM's and make sure they are keeping good timelines and progress.Full relocation including a monitary housing advance, a sign on bonus and other potential insentives depending on the need.
