Copywriter

Position Objective:

 

To write, edit and proof technical and promotional materials for the Marketing Communications team and/or the assigned customer(s) or product group(s).

 

Essential Functions:

 

Assist in writing, editing and proofing marketing materials including but not limited to brochures, direct mail, ads, articles, application papers, specifications and conference/powerpoint presentations.  May independently develop full pieces and/or develop content for Internet-based communications. 

 

Analyze and interpret data to determine the appropriate syntax, style and grammatical usage required for documents.

 

Select the graphics and other artwork to be incorporated into literature.  Prepare multimedia presentations. 

 

Participate on project teams responsible for developing marketing communications on larger scale or longer-term projects. 

 

May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

 

Nature and Scope:

 

This position interacts with equivalent levels of internal and external personnel.  That interaction requires good oral and written communication skills and facilitation skills to understand the goals and needs of the assigned customer group and deliver a quality product. Effectiveness in this role also requires functional knowledge of the assigned customer(s)? or product group(s)? operations and products.  The incumbent works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of data requires a review of identifiable factors.  Exercises judgment within defined procedures.  The incumbent normally receives general instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments. 

 

Education:

 

Requires a BA or BS in Journalism, English, Communications or a related field or the equivalent education and experience. 

 

Experience:

 

At least two (2) years relevant experience required; background writing for a variety of purposes in the life sciences environment strongly preferred.  Good communications and facilitation skills also required.  The proven ability to understand the concepts to be communicated and to effectively commit them to written copy necessary.

Has contact with equivalent levels of company employees and external customers.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Works in an office environment.  May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; frequently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.  Some local travel may be required.  The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
