While this fast-growing multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company has had several very successful and high profile strategic alliances resulting in sales in the billions, it has not heretofore had a department dedicated to forming and managing Strategic Alliances. Such a department is now being created In order to better capitalize on the potential value of alliances by adding more structure and consistent management to present and future alliances. The Director will help ensure that individual alliances are managed in a structured and consistent manner and will help build this department from scratch.
This is a newly created role and you will be part of the core team creating a new Strategic Alliances Department. If you have strong experience with establishing and managing alliances within the pharmaceutical industry, excellent leadership skills, a desire to work for a company with highly respected senior executive leadership, and are looking for a total compensation package (base, bonus, options and stock grants) in the $200k+ range, then continue reading for more details.
Responsibilities in a Nutshell:Support one or more key alliances, ensuring a successful working relationship with the alliance partner(s) and ensuring that the alliance business leaders follow through on the execution of contractual agreements.Help develop and implement processes for this newly created department.Serve at the ?epicenter? of the alliance(s) throughout its lifecycle. This is a critical role that is presently unfulfilled and thus the reason this role is being created. You will help launch, manage, and oversee alliance ventures across company functions and geographies.You will (1) support the alliance(s) business leader(s) in executing the day-to-day responsibilities of overseeing the alliance(s), and (2) serve as the primarily link between various other departments that play roles in the alliance (i.e. supply chain, marketing, research) around the world.Contribute to the negotiation of new alliances so that the foundation is set for a successful working relationship.Launch new alliance relationship by managing the transition from contract negotiation to implementation by operationalizing alliance governance and protocols for working together.Act as Ombudsman for the alliance internally and with partner across all levels of management.Monitor alliance performance to ensure objectives are met and report periodically to senior executive management.Make sure alliance contract terms and conditions are being met throughout the alliance.Develop an effective working relationship and communication link with your counterpart at the alliance partner.Audit quality of working relationship with alliance partner(s) and suggest and implement appropriate interventions.Monitor and anticipate issues and ensure their efficient resolution.Ensure that multiple alliances with the same partner are managed consistently.Maintain consistency across the lifecycle of the alliance from initial planning discussions through alliance termination.
Qualifications Desired in a Nutshell:Specific demonstrated experience in strategic alliance management within the pharmaceutical industry.Ideally 8+ years of related pharmaceutical industry experience in such areas as operational management, business development, project management, finance, etc.Ideally 5+ years of experience managing people / teams.Ability to motivate and manage people who are not direct reports.The experience and ability to interact with and build alignments across the corporate hierarchy, with multiple departments, and in multiple geographies.Ability and interest in developing and implementing implement processes for this newly created department.Very good business acumen.Bachelor's degree, with a graduate degree highly desirable.
