We are currently seeking a Genetic Counselor to ensure that clients of Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, Nichols Institute receive genetics services, both consultative and laboratory, of the highest quality possible.  Toward this end the Counselor will provide the Biochemical Genetics, Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics, and Maternal Serum Screening Laboratories and their Directors with organized programs in the areas of client consultation, case management, compliance, quality assurance, and education.

 Job Accountabilities

? Consultation with clients regarding risk evaluations, benefits and limitations of studies, samples needed to optimize utility, and significance of results.

? Verbal reporting of results to clients and referrals to geneticists when appropriate.

? Collection or review of medical information required for interpretations.

? Coordination with supervisory technologists to monitor and prioritize tests.

? Assist with design of test requisition and report forms. 

? Ensure ethical and legal compliance regarding genetic testing, presymptomatic testing and confidentiality.

? Case follow-up, documentation of outcomes and database management.

? Participate in development of educational materials for professionals and patients as well as coordination of central information resources for genetics.

? Education of staff and community as directed.

 Job Requirements

? Minimum of a M.S. degree in Genetic Counseling plus three or more years of related experience.

? Board Certification as a Genetic Counselor. 

? Strong verbal and written communication skills.

? Demonstrated decision making and organizational skills.

? Working knowledge of PC operation including appropriate genetics packages and standards such as Word, Excel, and Access.
