The Group Leader is responsible for managing the efforts of the sustaining engineering group to meet defined business objectives including the following: Build and maintain a well functioning sustaining engineering team focused on satisfying customer needs through benchmark performance. Build and maintain employee motivation and morale through effective communication, career planning, and providing opportunities to grow knowledge and skills through training. Facilitate on time delivery of zero defect products to Bio-Rad customers. Define projects/programs required to achieve defined business objectives and coordinate work of engineering staff to achieve expected results. Guide efforts of sustaining engineering staff in support of company goals, quality system requirements, FDA regulations and ISO registration requirements. Participate in new product development teams and transfer of new products, processes, equipment, tools, and fixtures to full scale manufacturing. Work closely with Quality Assurance, R&D and Marketing to address issues identified with compliance, scrap/rework, customer complaints, and/or opportunities to improve customer satisfaction. Maintain current knowledge in areas of expertise including manufacturing, quality assurance, industrial engineering, etc. Enhance knowledge of staff in medical, technical, and biomedical developments as related to company products. Participate in facilities engineering and planning when appropriate.

Education: BA/BS degree in engineering or related discipline.

Experience: 5+ years in manufacturing engineering and/or quality engineering. Experience in medical products preferred. Working knowledge of JIT, SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing; Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing implementation experience a plus.

Skills: Strong people management skills, project management, excellent communication skills. Lean manufacturing. Six Sigma experience (hands on) a plus.
