Intellectual Property Manager (F/T OR P/T)

Metabolix seeks an Intellectual Property Manager(s) to manage and protect our IP rights and processes. Our Intellectual Property portfolio has been growing and we need your help. You will work in an invigorating environment, being responsible for strategic IP management, invention evaluation, IP prosecution, licensing and protection of Metabolix IP rights. Responsibilities include: Protect Metabolix intellectual property by providing Patent Attorney advance information concerning potential public disclosure of Metabolix inventions. Assist in review of new products and processes for possible patent opportunities.  Monitor and provide summary updates on third party patents and applications  Direct the prosecution of intellectual properties and facilitate interaction between Patent Attorneys and Inventors. Cultivate and maintain relationships between Metabolix and attorneys, industry and others as required. Develop, implement, and lead strategies for commercializing approved Metabolix intellectual property and monitoring licensee compliance. Work with Patent Attorneys in defending Metabolix intellectual property rights. Work with Patent Administrator to keep intellectual property organized, visible, accessible and updated. Identify, measure and improve processes.

Qualified candidates will possess a B.S. in a scientific discipline (M.S. preferred) and have experience in the plastics/polymer OR biotechnology industries (strongly preferred).  Candidate should have excellent technical training, speaking and writing skills with experience in invention evaluation, strategy development for licensing technologies, and negotiation of license agreements with industry and contract compliance. Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities plus the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment will be an advantage. Additional experience as a patent agent, six to ten years of experience in intellectual property management and demonstrated working knowledge of the U.S. and International patent process will highly place this candidate.
