Director of Manufacturing/Operations for HLA Diagnostics a division of Invitrogen.
Location: Brown Deer, WI
Position Objective
Provide global manufacturing, purchasing and facility support for meeting HLA business segment objectives. Manage global supply chain to assure that products meet specifications, are produced on time and meet cost targets. Manage and continuously improve planning and execution of the movement of finished goods and materials, supplies and equipment into, out of, and between the Company?s facilities as well as to its customers. Drive optimization of global manufacturing resources, and management of strategic suppliers. Manage operations budget and assure performance to budget. Manage activities across multiple sites.
Essential Functions
Operations ? Ensure all production objectives are met.
? Provide support to operations managers in each site to set goals and objectives based on business needs and ensure they are met.
? Work closely with the HLA senior management team to ensure operations meets goals of the business.
? Work closely with the HLA senior management team to ensure quick resolution of business issues related to operations.
? Provide direction and support to operations managers to drive continuous improvement plans
Order-To-Remittance - Own the overall OTR process for the HLA business to insure an efficient flow of information and goods between the HLA business and distributors and end users. Functions include:
? Ensure timeliness and accuracy of product shipments, warehousing, and transportation to obtain maximum customer satisfaction at the lowest cost.
? Maintain accurate finished goods inventory to ensure product availability.
? Put in place and drive processes and operating mechanisms with other HLA and Invitrogen departments to monitor the overall Global HLA OTR process on a day-to-day basis and ensure quick resolution of issues. This includes: Maintenance of price lists for end users and distributors, key HLA point of contact for issue resolution with customer service centers and with large customers and distributors, Monitoring of stocking levels across distribution centers, and forecast and back order management.
? Ensure processes and systems used for order placement and processing and goods delivery are in place and well documented and that all personnel are adequately trained to meet customer?s expectations.
? Optimize HLA OTR processes, budgets, and plans in collaboration with HLA functional leaders in operations, finance, and sales, and with Invitrogen?s corporate functions.
? Participate in and support lean operations initiatives
Supplier Management ? Own management of strategic HLA suppliers. Functions include
? Negotiate and maintain supply agreements
? Put in place operating mechanisms such as forecast calls to ensure adequate supply
? Manage relationship with existing suppliers
? Formulate and implement an overall sourcing strategic plan for the HLA business, in collaboration with the operations leaders.
? Identify and establish contacts with potential new supplier
? Formulate, implement, and manage a supplier-based instrument service strategy for HLA customers.
Supply Chain Optimization Projects ? The supply chain manager will also be in charge of projects aimed at improving the overall efficiency of the HLA supply chain and customer satisfaction. These may include:
? HLA point of contact for corporate IT projects related to supply chain such as E1.
? Transfer of technology and between suppliers and HLA Operations teams
? Coordination of lab services capability in Brown Deer

? Define and track departmental goals and objectives.
? Develop and track department budgets. Monitor and report variances.
? Develop teamwork and motivate department through change.
? Develop and implement standards across multiple sites.
? Perform internal and supplier audits as required.
? Assure that the facility is operational and maintained.
Nature and Scope
Participates with other senior managers to establish corporate strategic plans and objectives globally. Makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures effective achievement of operation?s objectives. Has budgetary preparation/compliance accountability for functional area and makes recommendations concerning long-range planning. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations. Directs the activities of a broad area, working with several other department managers within the company.
Education:
Requires a bachelor?s degree in Business, Engineering or Logistics; MBA is preferred. Excellent organizational and communication skills, hands-on management approach, strong project management skills.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in global logistics and supplier management. Proven results in increasing customer satisfaction while decreasing overall costs. Should have knowledge and understanding of Lean Principles and Six Sigma.

Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
