Laboratory Inspector

Conducts site visits to evaluate, assess, inspect, and/or certify laboratories working with hazardous biological and/or chemical agents; records all laboratory observations using detailed evaluation checklists; submits appropriate documentation of laboratory site visit findings to program manager. 25% National travel may be required.

Essential Functions:
Conducts on-site inspections of laboratory facilities using detailed checklists to record observationsReviews laboratory standard operating procedures, floor plans, quality assurance and quality control programs, bio-safety manuals, etc., interviews of laboratory management, laboratory technicians and others as neededPrepares and submits in a timely manner completed checklists and inspector report listing observed deficienciesInforms Program Manager of observed laboratory deficiencies and makes recommendations for remedial actionsCoordinates laboratory site visits with inspection staff which may be assigned by various government/private agencies to participate in the inspection processCoordinate inspection reports with staff of other government/private agenciesReview inspection responses to determine appropriate action to takePrepares various reports as directed by Program Manager and/or required by clientSchedules travel according to established Constella divisional guidelinesParticipate in other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of CDC Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL), 4th editionKnowledge of NIH Guidelines for Research Involving DNA MoleculesKnowledge of infectious diseases, their transmission and the application of methods to safely control infectious materials in research, clinical, production or testing work environmentsSkilled in evaluating laboratory facilities, policies and proceduresUnited States citizen; must undergo background investigationImmunizations may be requiredSkilled in using word processing, spread sheets and database systemsExcellent oral and written communication skills
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Masters of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related scientific fieldsCombination of education and work experience equal to a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in clinical, veterinary, or research laboratories working with hazardous bacterial/viral organisms, toxins, or recombinant productsABSA/ASM Registered Biosafety Professional or equivalent desirable
