PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

This position serves as a product specialist who is responsible for (1) the provision of medical, scientific and technical information regarding products of Elan Pharmaceuticals, in response to customer inquiries, and (2) the maintenance of product-specific databases which facilitates efficient handling of inquiries.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provides written and, when necessary, oral (telephone) responses to requests for information from health care professionals about the clinical use of marketed Elan products. These responses must be accurate and consistent with applicable company policies and industry standards.
- Maintains product-related standard letter databases. This requires:
(a) collecting available pertinent in-house data, periodically searching the published medical literature, and monitoring newly published literature to identify new information that should be incorporated into the database.
(b) analyzing the available information, and
(c) incorporating pertinent information into the appropriate existing standard letters or organizing it into new standard letters, as needed.
- Documents the handling of product-related inquiries in the Medical Information Services inquiry management database.
- Performs analyses of data contained within the Medical Information Services inquiry management database, as needed, in support of assigned projects and in response to requests from company personnel outside the department.
- Gathers and handles initial information regarding any adverse events or product complaints of which s/he is made aware during the handling of a medical information inquiry in accordance with FDA mandates and company policies


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Doctorate of Pharmacy or Medicine and Minimum 3 yrs clinical practice experience or post-doctoral residency training.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Proficiency in identifying and meeting the information needs of practicing clinicians, including the ability to:
-- identify and retrieve relevant medical, scientific, and technical information
-- evaluate and interpret medical and scientific literature
-- select from the available resources information pertinent to the inquiry
-- formulate available information into an appropriate response

- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use appropriate tools to perform searches of the Internet and the published medical literature.
- Ability to manage projects and timelines effectively
